Hello everyone, and welcome back to English with Lucy.

你究竟能不能在白话中运用aint呢 休闲娱乐

大家好,欢迎回到"与露西一起学英语"。

In this video I'm going to teach you what ain't means, very important, I'm going to teach you how we use it, and who sort of uses it and whether you should use it.

本日的视频中,我要教大家"不是"这个词的含义,非常主要哦,我要教大家如何利用它,谁该当利用它,以及该不该利用它。

And believe me, there are reasons why you should use it, and reasons why you shouldn't use it.

相信我,有你要利用它的缘故原由,也有不去用它的缘故原由。

So you will have to make that decision for yourself.

你要自己做出决定哦。

Right, let's get started with the lesson.

好啦,开始本节课的内容吧。

So ain't isn't a new contraction, it's very, very old.

"不是"并不是新涌现的一个缩写,它是个很老的词汇。

It's been around for centuries, centuries and centuries.

已经存在了几个世纪了。

So what is the meaning of ain't?

"不是"是什么意思呢?

Let's talk about that first.

那就先聊聊这方面吧。

Ain't usually means am not, is not or are not.

"不是"常日表示我不是、他不是或都不是。

Those are all the verb to be, plus not or has not and have not.

指代所有动词加上"不",或者说没有、都没有。

Which are both the verb to have, plus not.

这些都是动词+否定的形式。

So ain't can mean various things.

"不是"能表示很多含义。

That's part of the reason why it's not so encouraged in English,'cause the meaning can be quiet ambiguous and unclear.

这便是我不鼓励在英语中利用它的部分缘故原由,由于其含义可以是模棱两可或是不清楚的。

The most important thing you need to know is ain't is incredibly informal.

你最该当知道的是,"不是"是非常非常不正式的用法。

There's informal and then there's ain't.

"不是"这个词乃至不能算在非正式用法里。

Ain't is really, really informal.

"不是"是非常非常不正式的。

Many people think that ain't makes the speaker sound uneducated.

很多人会认为,"不是"会让说话者看起来很没本色。

You absolutely should not use it in professional situations, or in exams, trust me on that one.

你当然不能用在专业语境或考试中,这一点请相信我。

Especially if you're not a native speaker, because it can make you sound a bit foolish or contrived, like you're almost trying too hard to sound native, by using an incredibly slang word in the wrong situation.

特殊当你还不是一个母语者时,由于这会让你看起来有点蠢或不自然,就彷佛你很想努力表现自己,在缺点的语境中利用这个令人难以置信的鄙谚,让自己看上去像个本地人一样。

However, I personally think, and I'm sure many others agree with me, that it's okay to use ain't in these four situations.

但我个人认为,很多人都会赞许我的不雅观点,"不是"用于四种语境中是没有问题的。

The first situation, number one, is, if your personal dialect or the dialect that you are trying to learn, involves the frequent use of ain't.

第一个语境便是,如果你的方言或你想学的方言,频繁地利用到"不是"。

For example, cockney.

例如,伦敦方言。

If you've got cockney friends, and you want to fit in and you want to speak the cockney dialect, well then, you better use ain't 'cause they will too.

如果你有伦敦的朋友,你想快速融入,想说伦敦腔,好吧,你最好利用"不是",由于他们也会用到它。

To expand on that a little bit, the cockney accent or dialect and many other dialects in the UK, and I'm sure in America as well, involve the frequent use of ain't.

对此稍加扩展,伦敦腔或方言,以及英国其它地区的土话,当然美国也有,都会频繁的利用到"不是"。

And they even go a step further and use double negatives as well, and let me just briefly cover them so that you understand them.

他们乃至更进一步,利用到双重否定,让我大略地描述一下,以便你们能更好地理解。

I'm not saying you should use them, you can make that decision.

我不是说你们该当利用它,是你要根据自己的判断。

For example, I ain't got no money, which means I haven't got any money.

比如说,我可没有钱,表示我身上没有钱了。

The literal translation would be I have got money.

直译过来实在该当是我还有钱。

'cause I ain't got no, is the double negative.

由于我并不是没有,是一种双重否定。

You understand double negatives, don't you?

你明白双重否定吧?

Or she ain't going to no party.

或者说她没去聚会。

She isn't going to any or a party.

她没有去任何聚会。

This is considered very bad English, and if you use it in the exam, don't say I didn't warn you.

这被看作非常糟糕的英语表达,你假如用在考试中,别怪我没提醒过你。

Situation number two, it's okay to use ain't, if it's part of a set expression or idiom.

语境二,说"不是"也没有问题,便是用在针言或部分针言中。

A couple I can think of are, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

我能想到的例子是,如果它没坏,就不要去修它。

That's a set expression, it's fine to use ain't in that situation.

这是一个固定的表达式,在这种情形下利用"不是"就没错。

And if you're using that expression in an exam, I think that would be okay, because it's known and it's a very native thing to say.

如果你在考试中用到这种表达式的话,我认为是没问题的,由于它已被广为传之,非常隧道的说法。

Another one, you ain't seen nothing yet.

下一个,还有更厉害的呢。

You ain't seen nothing yet.

还有更厉害的呢。

That's used to indicate that no matter how impressive something may seem, it will be overshadowed by what's to come.

用来表达,无论看到什么令人印象深刻的东西,它都会被即将到来的事物所粉饰。

You'll be more impressed by what's to come.

你会被即将到来的事情而留下更深的印象。

It's also part of a song, which brings me onto my next situation, number three, it's fine to use ain't if you're writing song lyrics, or if you are singing a song with ain't in the lyrics.

这也是一首歌曲中的歌词,以此引出下一个语境中,第三,如果你在写歌词,或在唱带有"不是"的歌词,可以利用"不是"。

Obviously I would never try and stop people from using ain't in songs.

很显然,我永久不会考试测验阻挡人们在歌曲中利用到"不是"。

For example, aint no sunshine when she's gone.

例如,她走了,带走统统温暖。

There isn't any sunshine when she's gone.

她走了,没有一点温暖。

It doesn't really have the same ring to it, in my opinion.

在我看来,事实并非如此。

Ain't is very commonly used in songs and song lyrics because it fits better.

"不是"在歌曲和歌词中非常常用,由于它更适宜。

It's just one short word.

它便是一个简短的单词。

And it can also be part of the songwriter's culture and heritage.

它也会成为作曲家的文化遗产的一部分。

Now the last situation, number four, it's okay to use ain't if you are trying to be comedic, funny, or ironic.

末了一个语境,第四个,如果你想表达中带有风趣、风趣或讽刺,可以利用"不是"。

For example, it ain't rocket science.

例如,它又不是什么火箭科学。

This is quite ironic and supposedly funny, I find it funny.

这样很讽刺,也会很有趣,我觉得很有趣。

Not everyone will, it's quite British.

不是每个人都会用的,非常英式的说法。

Because it isn't rocket science is used to tell someone, you know, it's not that complicated.

由于这不是火箭科学,是用来见告别人,你懂的,没那么繁芜。

You know, you'd have to be stupid not to understand this.

你知道嘛,如果你不明白这一点,那你就太笨了。

But including ain't, which is considered uneducated, kind of counteracts that.

但用到"不是",会被认为是没受过教诲的,在某种程度上降了一档。

It's a bit of an oxymoron.

这还有点抵牾。

Now the all important question, should you, English students, use ain't?

现在最主要的问题便是,你作为英语学生,是否该利用"不是"呢?

Now if you're not in one of the situations or if you ain't in one of the situations, that I previously mentioned, then my personal advice to you is no, you shouldn't.

如果你不是在以上语境中的话,我先提醒大家,我的个人建议是不要用它。

Now you can live your own life, you can make your own decisions.

你当然活在自己的天下里,你要自己做出决定。

If you love the word ain't, and think it's awesome and want to use it, I have no problem with that.

如果你喜好"不是"这个单词,认为它很不错,想利用的话,我表示没有问题。

But I think you come to this channel for my professional advice and so that's what I give you.

但我认为你来到这个节目是为了得到更专业建议的话,这便是我要见告大家的。

I don't think you should use ain't in your everyday life.

我不认为大家该当在日常生活中利用"不是"。

The reason why, it can sound very contrived, like you're trying to sound really native but it almost sounds over the top.

缘故原由是,听上去很造作,就像你很努力想让自己看上去很土气,但实在却很浮夸。

It's also considered non-standard or incorrect.

还会被认为是不标准或不准确的。

Native speakers tend to dislike the use of it, unless they, themselves, use it frequently.

母语者每每不愿意利用它,除非他们自己本身常常用到。

It can even be considered impolite, especially by the older generation.

乃至还会被认为是不礼貌的,特殊是被老一辈人。

So just bear that in mind if you choose to use it.

如果你选择利用到它,请记住这一点。

I do think, however, that's it incredibly important that you understand the word ain't, which is why I made this video.

我的确认为,你们能理解"不是"这个单词的含义非常非常主要,以是我录了本期视频。

I've seen a lot of people ask for this video, and I've also seen a lot of people trying to use ain't but using it incorrectly.

我曾看到很多人提出关于本期视频的话题,我也见过很多人在考试测验利用"不是",但用法有缺点。

So I thought I better help you out.

我认为我该当帮大家一下。

But yes, incredibly important that you know how it's used, because it's very likely that you'll hear it, either spoken by natives or spoken on TV and in movies.

没错,清楚如何利用这个单词很主要,由于你很有可能会听到,要么是当地人、要么是在电视或电影中。

And here's a challenge for you, the next time that you hear ain't on TV or in a movie, make a note to ask yourself, what the scriptwriter was trying to do by including the word ain't.

这对你是一项寻衅,下次,如果你不是在电视或电影入耳到"不是"的话,请做做条记,问问自己,利用者在句子中用到"不是"是要强调些什么。

Are they trying to portray a character in a certain light, or is the character from a specific region that speaks a dialect that involves the frequent use of ain't?

他们是不是要通过某种光辉来刻画人物,还是来自某个特定地区的人说的方言? 为什么要频繁利用"不是"?

Have a think.

仔细想想吧。

Let me know and let me know in the comments if you have seen a TV show or a movie that involves the frequent use of ain't, and why you think they've done that.

如果你在电视或电影中看到"不是"频繁涌现的话,请在评论区给我留言,并见告我,你对他们的这种表达是什么想法。

Right, that's it for today's lesson.

好了,这便是本日的课程了。

I hope you enjoyed it and I hope you learned something.

希望你们喜好,并从中有所收成。

Right, I will see you soon for another lesson.

好了,下次课见。
