对付新世纪很多年轻人来说可能很少听到过这首歌曲，不过对很多七零后，八零后，乃至九零后来说却是听过很多次了，歌曲很盛行。很多人喜好这首歌是由于喜好卡朋特那清晰而柔和的嗓音，加上多愁善感的曲风。虽然年代久远，但是丝毫不影响对该曲的欣赏。
美国的Carpenters兄妹组合(哥哥Richard, 妹妹Karen)是上世纪七十年代最具影响力的音乐组合。他们约有10首单曲销量超过100万。兄妹出道较早，出名也早。1969年Richard23岁，Karen 19岁，他们签约唱片公司A&M，同年发行了第一张专辑。第二年，他们的第二首单曲Close To You 飙升至美国音乐排行榜第一位，也抢占了英国市场，居英国音乐排行榜第六位，环球范围内销量超过300万，兄妹俩也由此而红。
七十年代初，美国涌现了重温60年代盛行歌曲的浪潮，尤其是电台不断播放那些老歌。Richard和 Karen 对此感到非常愉快，这让他们回顾起小时候听电台学唱歌的环境。他们决定出版有一壁是老歌联唱的专辑。Richard和他的填词差错John Bettis还专门创作了一首纪念老歌的歌来为这张专辑压轴。于是，1973年5月，当Carpenters的新专辑Now And Then面世之时, Yesterday Once more 便开始在地球优势行。在当年的英美排行榜上，这首歌均排第二。
