1964年10月，一张名为Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M.的民谣专辑由哥伦比亚唱片公司发行。唱片艺人是新晋民谣双人组合Simon & Garfunkel。这张专辑包含了几首传统民谣，还有翻唱当年如日中天的Bob Dylan的一首歌，此外还有Paul Simon原创的4首歌曲。然而这张唱片在当时民谣复兴的美国没有收成成功。遭遇挫折后，从童年期间就在一起唱歌，曾经把他们的组合取名为Tom & Jerry的Paul Simon和Art Garfunkel决定分开，各自发展。Paul Simon来到了英国，开始在英国和欧洲其他地方的小酒吧和戏院里演出；而Art Garfunkel去了哥伦比亚大学连续读书。

2003年2月23日，Paul Simon和Garfunkel在阔别十年后首次重聚并公开演出，同台演唱《寂静之声》作为格莱美奖的开场演出。在颁奖仪式上，Paul Simon和Garfunkel共同得到终生造诣奖，由《毕业生》电影当年的主演达斯汀·霍夫曼为他们颁奖。
