我们传统理解的童谣是温馨欢畅的，但由于鹅妈妈的童谣的产生年代最早可以追溯到14世纪，沉重的历史背景，使得个中部分童谣也有很多暗黑元素。大多数的童谣起源已经无法考证，下面列出一些有深层寓意的Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes，由于年代久远，也经历了改编改写，有些寓意是否真实已经无法确认，但还是可以管中窥豹，给大家看到一些不一样的“Mother Goose“。
1. Ring Around the Rosy
Ring around the rosies,
A pocket full of posies,
Ashes, Ashes,
We all fall down.
先容：这首童谣是一首欢畅的圆圈游戏童谣， 小朋友手拉动手绕着圆圈唱到随后在草地上倒下，很美吧。但传说这个童谣起源于欧洲历史上14世纪，断送了欧洲三分之一人口的黑去世病瘟疫。玫瑰色的斑点正是瘟疫的个中一种症状，而Ashes, Ashes打喷嚏，预示着病情严重，直到大家全都倒下了。(来源于维基百科）
2. Sing A Song of Sixpence
Sing a song of sixpence
A pocket full of rye;
Four and twenty blackbirds
Baked in a pie.
When the pie was opened,
The birds began to sing;
Now wasn't that a dainty dish
To set before the king?

The queen was in the parlor
Eating bread and honey.

先容：这首童谣的暗黑从歌词里就看的出来了，24个黑画眉鸟放在派里烤，可不是为了押韵瞎编出来的。在16世纪，有一种甜点便是将活鸟放在派里烤。1549年的一本意大利菜谱里面就有这样的配方：\"大众to make pies so that birds may be alive in them and flie out when it is cut up\"大众。这首童谣形容的是法国亨利四世国王和王后在1600年大婚时设宴的场景。
3. Humpty Dumpty
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall,
All the king's horses and all the king's men.
Couldn't put humpty together again.
先容：虽然在现在的童谣书中，Humpty常常是个圆溜溜的蛋的形象，但是没有任何证据表明原始的歌谣有任何“蛋“的含义指向。一种说法是在一次战役中，有一门大炮被架在城墙上用于防卫，敌方军队的炮弹击破了这面墙，并使得这面炮掉在地上，由于炮的重量太重，没人能抬得起来，以是就有了这首歌。
